Moon of Sivan סִיוָן  – Moon of Receiving

Emerald – Refractor of light

Sacred Incense – Galbanum, or חלבונה chal’vo’nah

Zodiac – Twins, Gemini, Attraction of Polarities

The Hebrew name for this month is Sivan, from the Babylonian moon deity, Sin. It is said to be the month of Receiving, as the Torah was received at Mt Sinai in Sivan. Sivan is the third month of the Hebrew (lunar) year, and is in the Central Column of the air signs. The controlling planet is Mercury, and the constellation is Gemini, the twins. The twins are compared to a bride and groom on their wedding day, receiving the secret of love and life.

Another big influence in the sky and on earth this moon-time and this season is Venus. Right now she is our morning star and will soon disappear and eventually reappear as our evening star. This morning to evening star business has been the source of myths and mystical esoteric teachings for many a time and place. When Venus (our twin planet) visits the waning crescent moon as she has done each month now for 7 consecutive months, she is said to have more and more of her outer layers removed, stripped away. What I have gleaned from this star gazing and moon musing this time around, is that as this cosmic dance plays out in our skies, we too are invited into “Naked Presence” at this time, this month, this season. This presence, this stripping away of our winter garments asks of us: How do we feel about our bodies? And how do we feel in our bodies? Our bodies are the mirror image of our planet’s body. Our body, Earth’s body. Earth’s rivers and streams, our blood vessels and lymph canals, Earth’s mountains and valleys, our muscles, curves, and contours. This month, I invite us all to treat our bodies as the most precious gems and beautiful paradises that they were created to be. How you do so is up to you.

“To lose confidence in one’s body is to lose confidence in oneself.” – Simone de Beauvoir

I highly recommend a body/mind boost by immersing in the air of stargazing, sampling essence elixirs, and diving further into cosmic keeping of time through the portal of Stargazer Li. Check out the essence elixir of Naked Presence here, and follow the website to hear audio podcasts that are SOOOOO enlightenting, light hearted, bare bones, and the real deal!

+ Here’s a beautiful meditation from Moon Mother Moon Daughter, by Janet Lucy and Terri Allison.

The Myth of Gaia: Spinning, spiraling, dancing freely, Gaia rolled herself out of the vast and timeless universe into and earthy ball. She sculpted from her soft, brown form majestic mountains, rounded hills, flat plains, and deep valleys, and she filled her crevasses with oceans and streams of water. The sun kissed her exquisite body, bringing forth strong and sturdy trees, medicinal and edible plants, and beautiful and fragrant flowers. The heavenly sky rained upon her, bathing her with a warm and gentle shower. Soon Gaia was covered with a rainbow of sparkling colors – turquoise and sapphire blues, emerald greens and ruby reds – and jewels adorned her flesh. Gaia was filled with joy and creative life-force energy pulsated through her body and radiated from her being.
